ELE 323 - Literacy and Language in Urban Grades K-6


3 Credit Hours

Prerequisite: This course is designed to teach the fundamental principles and concepts of the structure of language, with a focus on phonological awareness and phonics. Students learn the sound-symbol correspondences of language and understand the relationship of phonemic awareness and the phonological system of language to the reading process. Students also study the linguistic and cognitive bases of reading. Clinical field experience hours are part of the course requirements (10 hours).
