ELE 333 - Teaching Children’s Literature in Urban Grades K-6


3 Credit Hours

The purpose of this course is to guide educators in the development of a framework from which they examine the impact of cultural, linguistic, and ethnic diversity in literature. As such, emphasis is placed on the development of a critical lens that embraces culturally sustaining practices for groups that have been traditionally underrepresented and inauthentically portrayed in texts. Entails introspection as well as examinations of bias, power, and privilege. Clinical field experience hours are part of the course requirements (5 hours).
